This is what the Lord commands for Zelophehad`s daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within their father`s tribal clan.

Then at the Lord`s command Moses gave this order to the Israelites: “What the tribe of the descendants of Joseph is saying is right.

When the Year of Jubilee for the Israelites comes, their inheritance will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry, and their property will be taken from the tribal inheritance of our ancestors.”

Now suppose they marry men from other Israelite tribes; then their inheritance will be taken from our ancestral inheritance and added to that of the tribe they marry into. And so part of the inheritance allotted to us will be taken away.

The Lord said to Moses,

Instead, I give to the Levites as their inheritance the tithes that the Israelites present as an offering to the Lord. That is why I said concerning them: ‘They will have no inheritance among the Israelites.`”

Numbers 18:24

It is the Levites who are to do the work at the tent of meeting and bear the responsibility for any offenses they commit against it. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. They will receive no inheritance among the Israelites.

Numbers 18:23

“I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting.

Numbers 18:21

The Lord said to Aaron, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.

Whatever is set aside from the holy offerings the Israelites present to the Lord I give to you and your sons and daughters as your perpetual share. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the Lord for both you and your offspring.”

These were the names of the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
